Let The People You Appreciate Know What They Mean To You
This is my Kindness Club Prompt follow up post.
I normally put a kindness prompt up on Tuesday and on Sunday I write a blog about a “lesson learned” using the previous week’s kindness prompt. This week I am three days late with this post because it has been an emotionally tough week.
On Sunday evening, the father of a good friend of mine passed away suddenly. He had many health issues but even so, the circumstance and the timing of his death was sudden and unexpected.
There has been a lot of sadness around me these past few months and in truth I have suddenly felt weighed down by emotions that I guess I have not fully dealt with. This week has been so hard that I have been struggling to concentrate in general and also struggling to write, which is surprising because writing is usually quite cathartic for me.
I think it was fitting that the last kindness prompt was to write a letter (not an email) to someone you appreciate and whose presence you are grateful for in your life. When you are faced with a sudden loss, it makes you remember to appreciate and acknowledge the people in your life.
Life brings no guarantees. There isn’t always a tomorrow for you to be able to tell someone you appreciate or love them. So if this prompt has done nothing else, maybe it will remind you to let people know how you feel about them on a frequent basis.
So how did you guys all do with this week’s Kindness Club Week 21 prompt of writing a letter (not an email)* to someone you appreciate and whose presence you are grateful for in your life?
Go on and write a post about your experiences.
Or you can capture the prompt as a photograph.
(Don’t forget to use the URL from your post not your site.) The link will be open for a week. (Sunday-Sunday)
*The not an email is because in this day and age of email and internet, there is something extra touching about receiving snail mail.

So sorry to hear about your friend’s dad.
And I’ve been meaning to write my ill grandfather. Thanks for the reminder
I’m sorry that you have been having a difficult time. I hope things improve soon. Take some time to be kind to yourself.
Hugs.
[...] My friend who lost her father this week is sitting Shiva. For those unfamiliar with the word Shiva, it is a week long mourning period observed by first degree relatives. They sit on low chairs and are comforted by friends and family coming in and out of their house. Their needs are looked after by other people and their job is just to mourn. (For more detail have a look here.) [...]
I am so sorry for everything you have gone through recently, do take some time out to look after yourself ok!
I always wanted to say that letters are fantastic things, last year for mothers day we did exactly this. We had had a tough year with Baba, he had had two fits both times with our mothers, and we had recently had the bout of him being in hospital for a month, and both of our mothers where so supportive. They were coming to our house, at midnight, four am etc, driving to hospital in the dead of the night to help with Baba, and we felt that there was nothing that could express how we felt. So we decided to write letters to them, they are both still in the envelopes in prime positions in their houses, and made both of them cry. We were really pleased we did them as they showed how appreciative we were of them it is a lovely thing to do xx
