My husband is really going to like this post. But that’s because he can’t stand chewing gum at all. The smell makes him sick as does watching people chew it.
Sadly for him the rest of the family likes gum but we know better than to chew it in his presence. Most of the time that is.
My older boys know better than to chew gum in their father’s car. That’s because his sense of smell regarding gum is really sharp and the penalty for a a trace of chewing gum smell left in his car is no car use for them.
There is one point about gum chewing that both my husband and I agree about. Chewing gum while you are working with people is just simply unprofessional.
As my husband calls it, “the cow grazing look” is not the most attractive look. For me the deal breaker is dealing with the chomping noise coming out of someone’s mouth while they are trying to talk to you. Very distracting. Actually, it’s just yuck.
The other day while I was visiting my father in law in the hospital, the nurse giving out the medications did so while chomping away on her gum. I would have probably somehow overlooked the gum chewing had she had a friendly demeanor. But the “roll your eyes at every little request” along with the “cow grazing look” was not a winning combination. It just looked so unprofessional.
So does anyone else agree that chewing gum while working with people is unprofessional or is it just hubby and I who are weirdos?
