Being Able To Repay Someone’s Kindness Is The Greatest Gift Of All
November 30th, 2010 | 1 Comment
We have all been on the giving as well as the receiving ends of kindness.
I think that most of us would agree that accepting kindness is a lot harder then giving kindness. I don’t know why, but it is. Maybe it’s because when we do good things we feel good. As far as accepting kindness, many of us have a hard time accepting help.
And just so I am clear, sometimes the kindness we need to learn to accept is just to simply be able to lean on someone else.
Last week’s kindness club prompt was to think of someone who has in the past done an act of kindness for you and bestow upon them an act of kindness of your own.
I learned the hard way that accepting someone’s help is just as important as giving it when I was hospitalized six years ago for ten days. I was scared and worried and I needed the support of my friends. One friend in particular, one whom I had “been there for” so many times over the years was so happy to finally be able to be there for me. In leaning on her and in confiding in her, I actually gave her a gift better then anything I could ever have bought her.
A week and a half ago, when my brother in law was in the hospital awaiting bypass surgery, I once again saw how happy it makes people to be able to return kindness you have shown to them. And also how important it is to let them, for the sake of both sides. People want to be in a position to help you and call in favors that can help you, especially when you have in the past helped them or called in favors for them.
Being kind means being able to accept kindness, not just give it.
How did you guys all do with this week’s Kindness Club Week 25 prompt of repaying an act of kindness?
Go on and write a post about your experiences.
Or you can capture the prompt as a photograph.
(Don’t forget to use the URL from your post not your site.) The link will be open for a week. (Sunday-Sunday)

I am me and also lots of other things like a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a daughter in law, a sister in law, a friend, an oncology nurse, a blogger, a life coach in training, an avid book reader, a chauffeur, a chef, a shopper, a maid and on some days a bit overwhelmed. On this blog I share my journey of striving to see the best in everyone and everything. Strive, because I don't always manage to. Yup, I am human. I would love to have you join me in learning lessons in positivity from life.
